Have you seen this with your own eyes? Are you certain that it is not simply a story meant to scare people? You know how they are; how much they enjoy creating monsters of which to be afraid. I would not be surprised if this was something such as that.
Nein.
So little faith in me, Kris. When have I ever fallen for a fairytale?
A … certain … a Herr Wright is in the hospital. Not ours, another - shot.
By Fraulein Hawthorne - or, alternatively, by medium with no connections to him whatsoever.
Have you not read the case notes? It’s not the first time she’s manifested herself this way.
Of course I will. It’s my job to make sure Mr. Gavin stays safe from any threat, after all.
(Including me. But more than anything, I need to make sure they never work together, Hawthorne and the Gavins.)
[His eyes narrow slightly at that bemused expression. He doesn’t seem to be lying, he doesn’t appear to have a tell or be tense, but… he still didn’t think he could trust him.]
I think as long as we stay out of her way, she’ll stay out of ours… but if she comes after us, we’ll have to end her.
Yes, that’s all. Was there anything else you wanted from me, sir?
Ja.
Well, gut. Gut, gut. Nein — that’s all I needed. Danke, Herr Forehead.
I must repay you for that coffee sometime, ja? Remind me.
(Stay calm, and don’t get offended. He’s right, to a certain degree. It still stings when I think about Phoenix, though.)
Of course.
…!!!
(He knows about Phoenix!? S-shoot, stay calm.)
I did hear about that, actually, but you might be more interested in the fact that one of them was released today, but the other was only admitted earlier today. I believe they may both still be there, as the older seems to be taking care of the younger.
(Don’t… let him know that Phoenix is going to be with Mr. Edgeworth.)
From what I understand, Hawthorne is only responsible for the first attack… but I would be concerned about her. She doesn’t seem to have a pattern to the way she attacks… if you see her, I would take her out. The important thing is that she possesses a young woman, called a medium. An innocent woman. I don’t know about you, Prosecutor Gavin, but I would rather innocent blood not be shed. That’s not how I do things.
… I see.
( Nothing less than I already knew. Nothing too much more. Good. Good boy, Forehead. )
Ja, I’d assumed as much. Danke, though, for the advice. … I suppose you’ll be keeping an extra eye on my brother, ja? I don’t believe we have any connections to the woman, but - if there is, as you say, little pattern to her attacks … I’d rather be safe than sorry.
[At the mention of innocent blood being spilled, he looks, for a moment, genuinely bemused. Actually, it’s not entirely fake, either.]
… Natürlich, no, Forehead. [a soft laugh] Is that … what you think of me? Nein.
Of course I’ll give you some information, sir. After all, this isn’t a courtroom, and we’re not on opposite sides.
I’ve kept myself out of the way of the Wrights, as much as possible. A ghost — don’t start, I didn’t believe in them either until they started using knives — by the name of Dahlia Hawthorne has been assaulting people seemingly at random. You might remember her from Phoenix Wright’s cases several years ago.
Other than that, I’ve just been doing what Mr. Gavin requires of me. You might want to ask him about that.
(… But no mention of the hospital. Perhaps he believes it is irrelevant. I suppose it is, really. Still … when in Rome. )
Dahlia Hawthorne. Ja, I know of her. Who hasn’t studied the casenotes of Herr Phoenix Wright, ja?
They are the perfect lesson in what not to do.
Cool. Danke. I’ve been so busy lately, I was afraid I might have missed too much.
…
Ah! One more thing, though - not that I would expect you to know, but I thought you might have heard, in your line of work - I’ll admit, I’m not … 100% on top of all of the different ‘paradoxes’ here, as they are so wrongly termed, but, I keep my ear to the ground, as it were … and the name Phoenix Wright has come up twice recently for me.
Neither our own, natürlich. A young one, and an old one, both admitted to hospital within a … relatively short span of one another? Does that have anything to do with Fräulein Hawthorne’s spirit, or … would it be something that we should be concerned about ourselves?
